Vickers Tactical Enhanced Base Plate by Tangodown
Last year a couple of my students ( Patrick and Jim from PA) came to me with an idea for a new Glock accessory. They identified a need for an enhanced base plate that allows a user to strip mags easier in case they get stuck in the magwell of the Glock. From my experience it does not take much grit to keep a Glock mag from dropping free so when they approached me I was all ears. After giving me the prototype I handed it off to Jeff Cahill at Tangodown for us to refine the concept and get it ready for market- the result is what you see in the photo accompanying this article.
I can tell you from first hand experience with the baseplate it works as advertised and also allows for easier purchase when drawing the magazine out of the mag pouch during a reload. In short it is a home run and another great addition to the Vickers Tactical Glock accessory lineup. If you like Glocks then you will definitely like this piece of kit - trust me on that.

Larry Builds a Rhodesian FAL
As many fans of my TV shows know I am a history buff and a fan of the FAL battle rifle. I recently decided to build an accurate replica of the most battle tested of all FAL style rifles; the ones used during the Rhodesian conflict. Now as I found out doing my research a proper 'Rhodie' FAL as they are called could be almost any FAL made prior to 1980- early on L1A1's were used as well as others but the classic Rhodie FAL is the South African made variant known as the R1. The kit depicted here that I recently purchased off of FALfiles is in fact a South African kit that saw action in Rhodesia ; the giveaway are the 'RA' ( for Rhodesian Army) markings on various parts and the distinctive camouflage paint that is still largely intact ( known as 'Baby Poop' for obvious reasons) . The next step is to acquire the correct receiver- the R1 used a distinctive receiver that is unlike any other ; known as a 'type 1.5' by FAL enthusiasts as it blended features found on the FN made type 1 and 2 receivers as well as some unique features of it's own. To do a South African R1 in Rhodie trim correctly a type 1.5 receiver needs to be sourced - a task I am currently wrestling with right now.
This will be my next FAL build after completing a Dutch FAL clone last year. Can't wait to test fire the Rhodie once it is done - that is the great thing about the FAL is they are a collectors dream; not only do they shoot well but the variations are almost endless
